Abstract :
The author has presented an accurate, efficient and simple method for calculating the optimum fibre length for erbium doped fibre amplifiers. The method is valid in the absence of signal saturation, ESA and pump-induced lasing level depletion. Furthermore, the method assumes pumping in the fundamental mode.
