  • Abstract
Strand position in a cable-in-conduit (CIC) conductor has been calculated by means of Monte Carlo method in order to analyze the stability of the CIC conductor which was employed in the Large Helical Device. The calculated data were compared with the experimental results. It is found that the strands move due to the electromagnetic force and do not return to the original position even when the current becomes zero. The pressure drop changes with the number of excitation time. The mechanical loss originated from the frictional motion between strands is induced during the charging-discharging process. The contact stress between strands changes with the transport current and the number of excitation time
