Abstract :
This paper presents an application of a superconducting fault current limiter (SFCL) to enhance the power system transient stability. Resistance as the current limiting devices is used for damping the generator accelerating power. A method to evaluate an appropriate resistance is proposed. The SFCL is combined with the superconducting magnetic energy storage (SMES) for power system stabilization. As a result the capacity of SMES is significantly reduced
