Member relations: a society for every member, everywhere [The President´s Page]

IEEE Communications Society (ComSoc), as is the case with the IEEE, is a membership organization, where members are central to achieving the Society¿s goals. The ComSoc Constitution prescribes both ¿scholarly¿ and ¿professional¿ goals. The scholarly one, which focuses on scientific and educational activities, may be achieved in two steps: first, volunteer members establish (together with staff) a foundation (e.g., publications and conferences) for such technical activities, and second, all members, with extension to all professionals in the communications field, participate in generating, presenting, and publishing content on that foundation. The second goal, which focuses on professional activities, may be achieved through various membership programs as well as relating member activities to other internal IEEE and external non-IEEE organizations. Activities associated with the first goal are led by the volunteer groups under the leadership of ComSoc¿s VP-Technical Activities, VP-Publications, and VP-Conferences. Activities for the second goal are led by the volunteer groups under the leadership of ComSoc¿s VP-Member Relations (VP-MR).
