Abstract :
Magnetometry and recording noise measurements were made and compared for multilayers with various saturation magnetizations. A correlation between magnetization and noise as measured with magnetoresistive heads was found. Nevertheless, δM plots indicated weak intergranular exchange coupling for all of our CoCrTa/Pt multilayers, suggesting that magnetostatic energy plays a role in the noise amplitude. Recording using a peak detect channel was performed. Using the Katz-Campbell noise model, the measured error rates were in agreement with the measured noise power
