  • Abstract
    A compact Yagi-Uda antenna for vehicle directional communications in tactical VHF (30-88-MHz) is presented. A special double-folded monopole is designed as the element of the Yagi-Uda antenna to realise compact size and high directivity. The proposed antenna designed and optimised at 59-MHz can utilise the vehicle space reasonably with greatly compact height (0.1199-) and space between elements (0.125-). It has satisfactory performances of high directivity, gain (6.3-dBi) and front-to-back ratio (8.6-dB) in the operating band (VSWR-2), better than the typical monopole-type Yagi-Uda antenna. Thus, it is suitable for vehicle directional communications in tactical VHF. The effectiveness of the design is verified by a scaled-down model at 1-GHz.
