Abstract :
Particle collection in a single-wire high-gradient magnetic separator has been observed by means of a video system for a nickel wire mounted at various angles to the applied field and compared with collection for the axial configuration. The axis of the collection wire was rotated in a number of steps from the usual orthogonal-to-the-field position to in-line with the field. Measurements were made at various field strengths and velocities. Some collection was found to take place even at an angle of 10° between the wire axis and field direction. The experimental results are presented, including some details of the collection patterns obtained through the use of both paramagnetic and the complementary diamagnetic collection
