Abstract :
THE ISLE OF WIGHT is a small island with a big idea. While major cities around the world contemplate the introduction of sustainable transport schemes, green energy projects, zero-waste initiatives or smart grids, the Isle of Wight is doing it all - and more - in one vast project known as ´EcoIsland´. The idea behind EcoIsland is simple: to create the UK´s first sustainable region - one that is self-sufficient in energy by 2020, as well as water and food, and one that can serve as a beacon for others around the world to follow. Yet the scale, complexity and ambition of the project would challenge most major corporate organisations.
