Abstract
Design closure for a filter is the process of going from the initial layout to a layout that when fabricated meets all required specifications. Normally, repeated electromagnetic (EM) analysis is required to achieve design closure. For filters, this process typically requires about two weeks. In contrast, to facilitate rapid design of the filter, port tuning techniques take advantage of auxiliary EM simulations with additional internal ports. With this approach, design closure is achieved with only a few EM analyses and usually requires only one day or so. This technique can be directly applied to planar microwave circuits.
