Abstract :
For the last 12 years then has been a series of headlines in which Nobel laureate David Baltimore and his colleague, Thereza Imanishi-Kari, were variously accused, convicted, or exonerated of scientific fraud by a bewildering number of scientific panels, Congressional committees, and government agencies. Some scientists passionately attacked him, while others defended him with equal intensity. A brief description is given of the case leading to the exoneration of Baltimore and Imanishi-Kari and an assessment of its meaning.
