Abstract
A program has been developed to optimize the coil configuration of highly homogeneous magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) magnets with primary and canceling coils. To reduce the amount of leakage fluxes generated by the magnet, the ampere-turn ratio for the primary and canceling coils is set to balance their total magnetic moment. To realize a highly homogeneous magnetic field over the imaging space, the configuration of the main coils is designed to compensate for the flux density components up to the tenth order of the inhomogeneous magnetic field induced by the canceling coils
