Abstract :
Many devices can not be represented analytically in only two dimensions, which is necessary if a finite-element analysis is to be carried out using commercially available software in conjunction with a PC. However, if such a device is axisymmetric, it can be handled on a PC. Two techniques for transforming the geometry of some magnetic devices into an axisymmetric form are described. A relatively simple transformation is applied to a permanent-magnet separation magnet. A more complex transformation is applied to a large laboratory magnet
