Abstract
A novel way is presented for formatting servo code so that one can use a head manufacturer´s complete process distribution for track width, without any compensation circuitry, in a high-tack-density disk drive. It is shown how this approach to servo writing has been used with minimonolithic heads to reduce the servo gain variations on an 8-in drive and in a 5-1/4-in product with thin-film heads. Future work needed for the next generation of drives is discussed
