Abstract
A vibrating sample magnetometer with orthogonal, biaxial detecting coils was used to analyze a perpendicular magnetic recording medium. The demagnetizing field was easily compensated, since the magnetization vector could be measured. The magnetization reversal mode observed for the resultant intrinsic angular dependence of H c without the sheet demagnetizing effect is discussed. A transverse magnetization torque curve was also measured and used to estimate the anisotropy distribution of the medium after the exclusion of the demagnetizing field effects
