Abstract :
A novel, low-profile, and broadband plate-loaded planar monopole (PLPM) antenna obtained through the application of transmission line modeling (TLM) is proposed. The antenna consists of a rectangular planar monopole (RPM) with small rectangular plates attached to its radiating edges. The addition of plates at edges increases the upper frequency range significantly. Simulation as well as experimental results on impedance bandwidth, radiation patterns, and gain are compared and discussed. The proposed antenna operates effectively over the frequency range 2.9-16.7 GHz. The antenna produces a good omnidirectional pattern over the bandwidth.
