Abstract :
It has always been interesting to see what a new President brings to our Society. Frankly, from the perspective of a committee Chair or member of the AP-S Administrative Committee (AdCom), I have been surprised to see how a new President will present some idea or program that is so unusual that I have at times sat in awe, thinking, “What an original idea, this person is remarkably insightful.” I once attributed this phenomenon to the broad number of paths that have lead to the position of President, whether it was through membership on a committee or maybe their experience as an editor of one of our periodicals. However, now I know the truth and all is reveled: it is not necessarily the President that comes up with these great ideas. They most often come from just regular members that speak right up about what we could do, or maybe should do, for the members of our Society, and more often than not, they are willing to do it themselves. Let me give you a couple of examples.
