Abstract :
Some of the contributions being made to the requirements, concepts, and basic architecture of the developing international image processing and international standard by the Deutsches Institut fur Normung (DIN) are discussed. The requirements that the standard must meet are outlined, and the market for imaging techniques is examined. A basic imaging architecture is sketched, and the image data model and image interchange format on which the standard will be based are described.<>
