Abstract :
The error/erasure decoding of the RS(28, 24) and RS(32, 28) codes, used on a compact disc, are considered in some detail. Grobner bases are used to obtain the conditions for all error/erasure configurations that fall within the error-correcting ability of the two codes. Finally, a new decoding strategy is presented, which is based on these conditions
