Abstract :
A chemical “blanket” to be used as an inexpensive method of saving water now lost through evaporation has been de veloped by Columbia University, New York, N. Y., research scientists. Dr. V. K. La Mer, Columbia University professor of chemistry, said that in tests over periods of several months, hexadecanol, or cetyl alcohol, has reduced evaporation by 50 to 65% in reservoirs in the southwestern area of the United States and in Australia.
