Multichannel Wavelength Conversion of 40-Gb/s Nonreturn-to-Zero DPSK Signals in a Lead–Silicate Fiber

Abstract :
We experimentally demonstrate a compact four-wave-mixing-based multiwavelength converter based on a 2.2-m-long W-type dispersion flattened lead-silicate fiber. Simultaneous wavelength conversion of three 40-Gb/s differential phase-shift-keyed signals with a power penalty below 2 dB is achieved. Due to the high stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) threshold of the fiber, no SBS suppression schemes are required for the continuous-wave pump.
