Abstract
Although some challenge the value of open source software development, its popularity cannot be disputed. This overview of open source licensing and development models describes some of the movement´s main principles. We also clarify some of the main principles underlying the resulting software. Because so much has already been written about open source software, we only touch on some of its major themes and provide pointers to essential information about the movement and its general licensing structures
