Abstract :
Simple Sequence Repeats or microsatellites constitute a significant portion of genomes. However the significance of SSRs in organellar genomes has not been completely understood. The availability of organelle genome sequences allow us to understand the organization of SSRs in their coding and non-coding regions. In the present study, SSRs were identified and categorized in mitochondrial and chloroplast genome of wheat. Based on the study, it was observed that the number of SSRs in non-coding region is more as compared to coding region and frequency of mononucleotides was highest in chloroplast genome of wheat and frequency of tetranucleotides was highest in mitochondrial genome of wheat.
