Abstract :
A novel design is presented for a beam waveguide feed. This design incorporates two stages of beam magnification to achieve the required illumination of the sub-reflector from a corrugated horn of moderate gain. Along with the ellipsoidal mirror in a conventional system, another hyperboloid mirror is incorporated for this purpose. The magnification that needs to be achieved is distributed between these two mirrors. This results in compact mechanical design and adds flexibility to the pedestal room optics. The design steps of the magnifying mirrors specifically the hyperboloid mirror and the design results of this new configuration are presented here.
