Abstract :
The IEEE/United Nations/Vodaphone Foundation´s Humanitarian Technology Challenge (HTC) and IEEE Humanitarian Technology Network (HTN) are international efforts to bring the vast engineering expertise of the IEEE membership to bear on technological challenges arising out of humanitarian efforts in the developing world. Recently, these programs have been augmented with an educational component entitled “World-Wide Education for the Humanitarian Technology Challenge” (we-HTC). This initiative focuses on the introduction of educational programs that promote and enhance the development of technological solutions for the developing world. While the main focus is at the university level (e.g., via capstone design courses), educational resource materials will be available for practicing engineers involved in the IEEE HTC/HTN efforts.
