Abstract
This paper introduces an improved paradigm for assessing transmission system loadability. The proposed measure, which expresses loadability in terms of a percentage loading of power system buses, is easy to calculate and provides a more physical understanding of the loadability of various areas of power systems. When used in conjunction with power system reduction techniques, percentage loading estimates quickly identify the weakest areas of a power system. The method can be used to assess the effects of proposed power transactions on power system security, providing an important component to the determination of transmission system capacity
