Abstract :
The author considers networks of the future that combine broadband transport with intelligent control and improved customer network management. He examines some of the service requirements related to broadband transport for such a system, with particular emphasis on the performance issues. Voice, visual, and data services are covered. The complexity of the communication environment and the resulting interconnection problem are examined.<>
