Abstract :
A method is presented for determining the optimal number of phase shifters (and their locations in the network) for minimizing real power line losses for a power system under steady-state operating conditions. Comparisons are made to show that the phase shifter significantly increases damping as compared to machines having no regulation and machines having exciter-augmented stability
