Abstract :
Engineers often view their work, their responsibilities, and their profession with flawed vision-usually it fails to see `the big picture´ and properly meet its challenges. This article attempts to define the areas of distortion, provide the means to identify the condition, and, finally, outline how the condition can be corrected (provide remedies). The areas identified are the following: 1) the marketing area failure, 2) combining myopia with tunnel vision, 3) myopia combined with over management, 4) myopia regarding engineering´s role as related to production, 5) communication and the engineer, 6) engineering myopia on the campus.
