Abstract :
A time domain method to generate colored noise signals is proposed. Given the frequency characteristics of the desired colored noise, an infinite impulse response (IIR) filter is directly designed in the digital domain, following a pole-zero placement strategy. This filter is applied to an input white noise signal to color it. Making meaningful approximations, the pole-zero placement technique leads to low order IIR filters suitable for real-time and low computational complexity implementation. Design examples are included to illustrate the proposed method and to compare it to other methods.
