            Abstract :
An analytic approach to the calculation of error-free seconds in xDSL systems corrupted by impulse noise is outlined. The impulse noise is modeled by an n-state Markov renewal process. It is shown that lower and upper bounds can be calculated. A realistic estimate can also be obtained. Analytic results are compared with empirical results.
