            Abstract :
Engineering is shown to meet all the requirements of being a profession, but management in general cannot make as good a case. Characteristics differentiating engineering management from other management disciplines are discussed. Unifying institutions that will enhance the growth of engineering management as an institution include a neew journal and textbooks, management divisions of technical societies, and the new American Society for Engineering Management.
