Abstract :
When Jaguar proposed its XJ40 project in 1980, the company was in its own words — close to extinction. Its cars were badly built, the cost of warranty claims was huge, and that year the company sold only 3029 cars in the United States, its primary market. Luxury car buyers had all but given up on Jaguars.
