Abstract :
Two types of solar phenomena that affect the Earth-electromagnetic radiation from solar flares and the solar wind, which is fed by solar flares, coronal holes, and disappearing filaments-are described. Their effects on the ionosphere and magnetosphere are discussed. The impact on communication systems and the significance of this impact for utilities are addressed.<>
