Abstract :
The paper examines the dynamic response of the static synchronous series compensator (SSSC) with sliding-mode and fuzzy controllers. A current-controlled voltage-source inverter (CC-VSI) is used as an SSSC. It injects a sinusoidally varying voltage (0<νpqpqmax in magnitude, 0<δpq<360° in phase) in series with the transmission line. The SSSC not only works as a reactive power compensator but also exhibits the capability of supplying or absorbing the active power to or from the transmission line. This is made possible by incorporating an energy source in the DC link of the CC-VSI. The closed-loop control scheme of the system is described. With a view to analysing the performance of the compensator, a mathematical model of the system is evolved. Simulated and experimental results of the system are given and discussed
