Abstract
May 16, 1968, was a slow day for news on Long Island, New York. Residents of the suburbs there might have read in the morning paper that Ronald Reagan, the outspoken Governor of California, had criticized the Federal government for interfering in state programs. Peace talks between the United States and North Vietnam were just beginning in Geneva. In New York, a shaggy-haired John Lennon and Paul McCartney of the Beatles announced the formation of Apple Corps Ltd., a recording and entertainment concern.
