The legacy — Guest editor´s Prologue

This special issue of the Transactions devotes its pages to commemorating the centennial of the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers (IEEE) and the 35-th anniversary of the Reliability Society. Both events present a particularly appropriate occasion for reflection upon the legacy left us by the giants of the electrical and electronics technologies and the legacy we are preparing to leave those who will follow. The legacy given us had its roots in the work of the IEEE precursor institutions, the American Institute of Electrical Engineers (AIEE) and the Institute of Radio Engineers (IRE).
