Abstract :
Striated structures are well known from low-pressure glow discharges. In this paper, however, an observation of striated microdischarges in argon barrier discharges at atmospheric pressure is reported. In a semispherical discharge arrangement with a metallic cathode, a dielectric covered anode and with a gas gap of 1.5 mm, the discharge duration was approximately 5 μs. Striated microdischarges occurred only at certain experimental conditions (argon flow rate and value of applied voltage).
