  • Abstract
The paper describes the technique employed in the operation of a high-definition television studio and its associated equipment, and deals with the methods by which a studio production is handled by the production engineer. It does not discuss the principles and design of the video and audio equipment, which have already been covered in papers read before The Institution. After stating the general requirements for a television studio, the paper discusses the operation of television cameras and lighting apparatus, and the principles on which the work of the production engineer is based, a detailed description of the method in which the technique was applied in a particular play being included by way of illustration. The paper concludes with an account of the tests and adjustments which are made before a transmission, after the studio scene has been set up, and with the actual operational handling of a transmission.
