Abstract :
A rate equation model for gain-clamped erbium-doped fibre amplifiers (GC-EDFAs) is presented and verified experimentally. The characteristics of a GC-EDFA obtained using the proposed model are in good agreement with those of the experiment. The model can be useful in evaluating the performance of cascaded GC-EDFAs in multiwavelength networks
