Abstract :
Consumer electronics companies worldwide felt sure that the public would be interested in a machine that would tape their favorite television programs in their absence, for replay at home at their leisure. But in 1971 there were no such products on the market for consumers, and there was still debate over what exactly people wanted. Two companies determined to solve both problems were Sony Corp. of Tokyo and The Victor Co. of Japan, known as JVC Ltd., Yokohama.
