Abstract :
A new spectral method is proposed and applied to the analysis and design of integrated optical spotsize transformers. Results presented are of the same accuracy as those from a finite difference method. The new method is simple, efficient and gives propagation constants and fields over a wide range of structures in seconds, making it well suited to the class of optical waveguide problems involving interacting rib and buried waveguides
