Abstract :
The authors experimentally demonstrate robust asynchronous optical multiuser access using spectrally encoded broadband sources. In a system experiment, four transmitters operate simultaneously at 155.52 and 77.76 Mbit/s in an optically amplified tree network with standard singlemode fibres. A BER of 10-10 is achieved without an error floor using a tunable balanced receiver. This technique is suitable for application in arbitrary fibre network architectures
