Abstract :
The design of antennas for wideband and ultra-wideband radar systems has been an area of extensive research in recent years. The design of these types of antennas is complex in and of its self and has been the focus of much study especially in the areas of planar-type wide band antennas. In particular, design of communication and radar antennas for vehicle mounted systems for military applications are rather challenging as planar wideband or ultra-wideband antennas are required to operate in conjunction with some kind of defensive structures to ensure the safety of the vehicle and its occupants as well as the continued operations of the antenna systems. As such, it is necessary to incorporate composite ballistic materials into the structure of antenna system.
