Abstract
This paper presents an analytical approach to study sustained inter-area power system oscillations as a nonlinear phenomenon. It is based on the spectral Galerkin method coupled with conditions that consider the nature of these oscillations. The approach enables the online computation of the amplitude and frequency of oscillations, and the determination of conditions for out-of-step operation
