Abstract :
The paper describes how a wave guide may be closed and opened by tuning and detuning a cavity coupled to the wave guide. The cavity is a gas-filled rhumbatron and is coupled so that when it is tuned, a high impedance is placed in series with the guide. When the gas is ionized the cavity is detuned and the wave guide opened. Two switch units may be combined to switch the received beam on a radar set in which the same aerial is used for transmission and reception.
