Abstract :
The paper traces the history of the radio component industry´s work in the specification, development, production and standardization of radio components for the Services and civil requirements from 1934 to 1947, with particular emphasis on the part played by organized industry through its technical committees, both on their own initiative and in collaboration with the Services and Supply Ministries. Detailed accounts of the development of a few individual components are given in supporting papers. Components and accessories not covered by supporting papers are referred to briefly in this paper, and some of them are used as examples to illustrate general developments or trends. An attempt is made to estimate the post-war value of war-time experience in the development and production of components, and to forecast future trends for both Service and civilian uses.
