Abstract :
It is experimentally demonstrated that a filtering penalty could be substantially reduced by adjusting the passband shape, or introducing a loss ripple, in an optical filter for 127 Gbit/s DP-QPSK signal transmission. Experimental results showed that the Q-factor penalty for 20 cascaded filters with a loss ripple of 0.3 dB was 1.4 dB lower than that for conventional filters without a loss ripple at a received OSNR of 16 dB.
