Abstract :
In this paper we investigate the use of a photonic band-gap (PBG) structure in the design of a 94 GHz traveling wave amplifier. The proposed device has been designed with a large beam tunnel in order to accommodate a high current electron beam. CST Microwave Studio is used to solve the dispersion of the waveguide and simulate transmission of microwaves through a finite length section of the PBG waveguide. The CST PIC solver is used to estimate the output power of the device. The numerical linear gain of the TWT is 38 dB and the output power is 360 W.
