Abstract :
The effect of current density and stripe height on the amplitude of a dual-synthetic GMR head is studied experimentally. Heads from the same wafer are lapped to various stripe heights, and their amplitudes are measured using different current densities. It is found that the effect of current density on amplitude is three to four times greater than the effect of stripe height. Consequently, it is inefficient to increase amplitude via stripe height reduction as compared with current density enhancement
