Abstract :
Economic activity is underpinned by availability of a well educated and skilled labour force. Leadership for growing businesses comes from having skills acquired from postgraduate education in business management and leadership. However, while such realities appear to have been recognised and addressed to great measure in the west, the African continent has lagged to its detriment. This paper contains an overview with relevant insights into higher education in South Africa and the issues relating to management education needs for industry as a whole and the engineering profession in management cadre in particular.
